PETALING JAYA: The police are on the hunt for three men who tried to repossess a woman's car despite having no such orders from a bank to do so.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm S. Shanmugamoorthy said the police received a call on May 17 after three men with a tow truck had tried to repossess the victim's car.
"The 32-year-old victim received a call saying that she needed to move her car near MITEC (Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre).
"When she arrived, the three men with the truck told her that she had arrears for the past 19 months.
"A policeman then instructed both parties to make police reports at the police station," he said when contacted Monday (May 20).
"However, when she tried to call the bank for clarification, she was prevented from doing so. The victim's friend, who was with her, called the police.
"A policeman then instructed both parties to make police reports at the police station," he said when contacted Monday (May 20).
However, the three failed to turn up.
"The victim had never received any notice or repossession order from the bank. Details of the three men have been obtained and efforts are underway to nab them," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion. - Star
