DAP just talk, no action, says PBS president

PBS president Maximus Ongkili claims DAP is only good at making promises.

SANDAKAN: Hours before polling, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Maximus Ongkili reminded voters that DAP is “just talk, no action”, especially on matters concerning Sabah and Sarawak.

“DAP cannot be trusted to champion Sabah and Sarawak rights. They are just super Nato (No action, talk only).

“DAP is only good at talking about Sabah and Sarawak rights and making promises but they have not done anything so far,” he said.

Ongkili said that before the 14th general election, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had promised Sabah its entitlement of 40% of net revenue derived by the federation from the state as spelled out in the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report.

“The Pakatan Harapan promised to increase oil royalty from the current 5% to 20%. Until today, not a single sen has been fulfilled, which goes to prove that DAP is not a party of its words.

“DAP also cannot champion the constitutional rights of Sabah and Sarawak, as provided for under the IGC or the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“He (Lim) is the finance minister, he should start paying,” he said in a statement.

Ongkili said he used to be a member of the opposition before joining Barisan Nasional in 2002.

He said that when he voiced out in Parliament on the 20-point agreement (drawn up when Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaysia), MA63 and other issues such as the immigration rights and special rights of lawyers in Sabah and Sarawak, he was openly scolded by senior members of the opposition.

“I used to get scolded by senior members of DAP like the late Karpal Singh. He would bombard me (by asking) ‘Why do we have two systems in one country? Why do the West Malaysian lawyers have to be admitted to the Bar in Sabah to practise and defend court cases in Sabah?’

“They would also repeatedly query why West Malaysians need travel documents to enter Sabah and Sarawak, forgetting that these rights are spelled out in the constitution and MA63,” he said.

He said DAP MPs continue to harbour these sentiments on the special rights of Sabah and Sarawak, “showing that they are not a defender of East Malaysian rights”. - FMT
