DAP refutes Najib, produces approval letter, receipt for chair rental

SANDAKAN POLLS | DAP has produced the approval letter and receipt for the rental of chairs from the Sandakan City Council (MPS) after former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak continued pushing them on the issue.
"Even though I had already issued a press statement that we rented the chairs from MPS following proper procedure, Najib still does not believe us and challenged us (to show) the approval letter and the receipt (for the chair rental).
"So today I want to show the approval letter and receipt.
"If he cannot prove that DAP committed an election offence, I urge him to retract his statement and apologise because he has made malicious allegations against DAP," said Sabah DAP publicity secretary Phoong Jin Zhe at a press conference in Sandakan today.
He then displayed the approval letter with the MPS letterhead, a receipt and a payment voucher all dated April 29.

Phoong said it was actually a small issue and he did not understand why a former prime minister would keep raising the matter.
"He is a former prime minister, he must have integrity. Do not make accusations like this and play politics like this," he said.
Najib had yesterday uploaded pictures on his Facebook page yesterday morning showing chairs marked 'MPS' being used at a DAP ceramah for the ongoing Sandakan by-election campaign.
"Were MPS assets abused for a DAP ceramah for the Sandakan by-election?" he had asked in the post.
DAP then refuted this the same day, saying that they rented the chairs from the city council and produced an application letter (above) from his party to MPS for the rental of a stage and 500 chairs for their ceramah on Monday night in Kampung Sim Sim.
Following that, Najib claimed DAP was not able to produce the approval letter or receipts from the rental.
DAP is fielding 30-year-old Vivian Wong in the Sandakan by-election against PBS candidate Linda Tsen and three other independent candidates.
Polling day is set for May 11. - Mkini
