PUTRAJAYA: The government will listen to public opinion before deciding to set up the proposed Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), says the Prime Minister.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government is aware that there are differing views on the issue.
"There are people who are for it and there are people against it.
"We will study public opinion before making a decision," he said after launching the BOCE Malaysia/Asean Digital e-commerce platform on Thursday (May 2).
Earlier, outgoing Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Muhamad Fuzi Harun said the police force does not want to hand over the power to take disciplinary action against its personnel to the proposed IPCMC.
He said that about 130,000 serving police personnel and retired personnel had voiced their opposition as a whole on the matter.- Star
