Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today that the government will study calls for the establishment of a truth and reconciliation commission in relation to the May 13, 1969 incident.
"Will study," he said briefly when asked on the matter at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Mahathir was responding to a question about the possibility of setting up a truth and reconciliation commission on May 13, similar to that established in South Africa in the wake of apartheid.
He was also asked about whether complete documentation on the riots would be released.
To date, the only official document released by the government is the National Operations Council (NOC) report.
Other records have come from elsewhere, including declassified documents from the British government.
Yesterday was the 50th year anniversary of the riots. - Mkini
