PETALING JAYA: Residents of a high-rise condominium and their neighbours in Bandar Kinrara are up in arms over the unbearable stench caused by garbage dumped on a vacant plot of land nearby.
KinraraMas resident K Mohin said the residents have held meetings with the City Hall and the Department of Environment, but no action has been taken yet.
Residents have been told that the land is privately owned, but “even if it is private land, it is not a place to dump garbage”, he said.
“About 20 to 30 lorries dump garbage on the land. It smells. Residents complain that their washed clothes smell of garbage,” he told FMT.
He said the problem started two months ago when lorries began dumping garbage indiscriminately at the site, which measures about 1.2 hectares (three acres). The number of lorries increased as time went on.
The KinraraMas condominium in Bandar Kinrara consists of 569 units and is next to about 100 three-storey terrace houses. The garbage dump is just across the road from the houses.
Mohin has urged City Hall to temporarily halt the dumping while it has discussions with the landowner.
“Where is the garbage from? We don’t even know what sort of garbage is thrown there as it is private land and we can’t enter.”
Indiscriminate plastic dumping from foreign countries was reported to have taken place in Port Klang and Hulu Langat, raising fears of river pollution, and health and skin problems for people living nearby. - FMT
