Hindu NGO denies insulting MACC with temple land probe 'leak' exposé

An NGO leader has denied questioning the integrity of the MACC in his exposé of an alleged leak in an ongoing probe into land belonging to a Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur.
As Hindu Agamam Ani Malaysia Association adviser Arun Dorasamy said at a press conference today, several police reports have been lodged against him by parties unhappy with his move.
"I know this past week a few police reports were filed against myself personally, stating that I have insulted the MACC... I have never questioned the integrity of MACC.
"At the same time, it is the responsibility of citizens (to expose alleged wrongdoing) when you have enough evidence to implicate some bad apples.
"Just because we are identifying some bad apples, that doesn't mean we are questioning the integrity of our institutions," he told reporters ahead of the NGO's second Temple and Community Service Conference at the Petaling Jaya Civic Hall.
On May 18, Arun (photo) urged the MACC to investigate three of its officers who allegedly leaked information linked to a case involving a 'Tan Sri' and his 'Datuk' son.
He claimed that three MACC officers met with the 'Datuk' for breakfast on May 4 – the same day a separate team raided, arrested and obtained a three-day remand order against the 'Tan Sri' and his son under Section 16 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Arun, who revealed that he had lodged the MACC report which triggered the raid, said the alleged leak concerned an ongoing probe into the development of a plot of land belonging to the Sri Mahamariamman Devasthanam temple.
'Temple as community centres'
On the conference agenda, Hindu Agamam Ani and other supporting NGOs will discuss the need for Hindu temples to be transformed into community service centres rather than remain mere tourist attractions.
Arun said there are about 3,000 Hindu temples nationwide, and that the group aims to transform about 500.
He added that there is also an urgent need for reform to cut out alleged corruption and mismanagement of temples. - Mkini
