We hope we don’t have to write an article entitled – “Congrats Mahathir, Suicide Bombers Inspired by Zakir Naik Wrecks Havoc in Malaysia.” And we certainly hope the U.S. will not slap Malaysia as “High-Risk” country for American travellers due to widespread terrorist attacks. The last things PM Mahathir can afford are foreign investors and tourists fleeing the country like a plague.
Malaysia is a fertile breeding ground for radicalized Islamist terrorists. You can argue until the cows come home, but the fact remains that unlike neighbouring Singapore, the Malaysian authorities don’t really scrutinise or filter foreigners entering and living in the country, especially if the foreigners originated from Muslim-majority countries – all in the name of Muslim brotherhood.
Yes, despite Monday being the 50th Anniversary of the May 13 bloody racial riots, the immediate threat is actually terror attacks. While the Special Branch has done an incredible job, they could not stop the 2016 Movida Bar grenade attack launched by two attackers, who threw a grenade into the bar where 20 customers were watching the UEFA Euro 2016 match between Italy and Spain.
Although no deaths were reported (8 people were injured), the Movida Bar attack was the first ever ISIS terror attack against Malaysia. For obvious reason, the police initially refused to recognize it as a terrorist attack, and called it “business rivalry” instead. It would take the country’s police chief about a week later to finally admit that the attack was perpetrated by Malaysian ISISmembers.
On Monday (May 13), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) revealed four men had been apprehended. Apparently, they were planning terror attacks and assassinations in Malaysia during the current holy fasting month of Ramadan. The four included one Malaysian, one Indonesian and two Rohingya men, the ethnic Muslims Prime Minister Mahathir tries very hard to protect.
Sure, Myanmar’s attacks against the minority Rohingya Muslims should be condemned. But that does not mean Malaysia should foolishly welcome the Rohingya blindly with an open arm without proper filtering and checking. At the very least, those foreigners, despite them being Muslims, should be quarantined or isolated – for national security reason.
Interestingly, one of the Rohingyas who possesses a United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) card has admitted to being a member of ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) terror group. He was planning to attack the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and then perform “Jihad” in Rakhine.
However, the primary mission of the four suspected militants, as revealed by the newly crowned Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador, was to launch terror attacks and assassinations to “avenge” the death of firemanMuhammad Adib Mohd Kassim. Fortunately, the Special Branch counter-terrorism division received intelligence on the “wolf pack” cell of the ISIS terror group.
Like the 2016 Movida Bar, the terrorists were planning to launch large-scale attacks against Christian, Hindu and Buddhist places of worship in the Klang Valley as well as entertainment outlets. The radicalized Islamist terrorists were also planning the assassinations of four VIPs whom they accused of not defending and protecting Islam.
While it’s everyone’s guess if the assassination targets included Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, one thing is for sure. These VIPs are certainly not racist politicians from UMNO Malay Nationalist Party or extremist leaders of PAS Islamist Party. In fact, the four detained terrorists have most likely been radicalized by UMNO and PAS through their racial and religious politics.
After the racial tension exploded on November 26, 2018 as a result of attacks on a Hindu temple – Sri Maha Marianmman temple – in Subang Jaya, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin later revealed that RM150,000 changes hands, where between 50 to 250 Malay gangsters were hired by a developer’s lawyer to “take care of things” at the Hindu temple.
Fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim died from injuries sustained during the riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple. Opposition UMNO and PAS gleefully played the death of the fireman to the hilt, even before his autopsy could even be carried out. They falsely accused the Mahathir government of “covering up”the death of Adib – a Malay Muslim.
The majority ethnic Malays, provoked and instigated by UMNO racists and PAS extremists, have demanded the resignation of P. Waytha Moorthy, National Unity and Social Well-being Minister. UMNO and PAS have also been spewing hatredamong Malay-Muslims, and spread fake news that Chinese, Christians and Communists have taken over the power of the country.
Did Mr. Muhyiddin do anything to control the situation when the riots at the Hindu temple first started? Nope, the useless home minister had chosen to sleep on the job. Until today, the perception is such that a Muslim fireman was butchered by a gang of non-Muslims, when in fact the death was the indirect result of the barbaric acts of a gang of 50-250 Malay-Muslim thugs.
Adding fuel to the tension, the Subang Jaya District Police Chief Muhammad Azlin Sadari was caught issuing a false statement on Facebook that the cause of the Hindu temple riot was a misunderstanding between two Indian groups over the temple relocation. The Facebook post later removed the word “Indian”. For some reasons known to him, the police chief had tried covering-up the reality.
At best, Mr. Muhammad Azlin Sadari was completely incompetent in handling such situation – allowed mobsters terrorizing the Sri Maha Marianmman temple. At worst, the Subang Jaya district police chief was probably bribed by gangsters to turn a blind eye, even a racist himself – trying to cover-up the ethnicity of the attackers. Either way, he should be fired.
Comically, the “incompetent” Subang Jaya police chief was transferred out –quietly – to Bukit Aman’s Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, effective November 26, the same day the riots exploded. The Selangor police chief, Commissioner Mazlan Mansor, claimed the transfer was a coincidence and had nothing to do with the temple rioting.
Again, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had refused to do the right thing.Instead of condemning and demanding the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohamad Fuzi Harun to explain why his boy should not be sacked, a battalion of at least 17 high ranking police officers – including the IGP Fuzi – was rewarded with a lavish holiday trip to Istanbul, Turkey.
Of course, the incompetent Muhyiddin Yassin had rubbished the trip was specially approved as a farewell gift for Fuzi and his minions. However, the home minister had failed to explain why IGP Mohamad Fuzi and his deputy Noor Rashid were rewarded with such an expensive trip when both senior police officers were about to retire on May and March, 2019 respectively.
Yes, thanks to Mahathir’s misplaced trust in his top lieutenant Muhyddin, who in turn cowardly failed to reprimand his boy Fuzi, who happened to be one of 17,000 political appointees of former crooked PM Najib Razak, four radicalized Islamist terrorists were produced. In actual fact, the police said they are still tracking down three other members of the terror cell who are still at large.
Get real, despite that the four Muslim terrorists were successfully captured in four operations on May 5 and 7 in Terengganu and the Klang Valley, they did not become militants overnight. They were radicalized when both Muhyiddin and Fuzi took turn sleeping on the job, letting racism and extremism run wild. The former police chief did nothing until Mr. Bador took over as the new IGP on May 1.
Had the Special Branch, and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for that matter, failed to detain the 4 terrorists, hundreds of non-Muslims could be killed when they attack Christian, Hindu and Buddhist places of worship – similar to the recent terror attacks in Sri Lanka. Still, the root problems of the radicalization have not been fixed. Racists and extremists from UMNO and PAS should be neutralized.
Home Minister Muhyddin might think a large-scale attack on non-Muslims is a tooth fairy story. Heck, even Mahathir might think harbouring controversial Indian Islamic preacher Zakir Naik is worthwhile for political reasons. But eventually an attack as massive as the Sri Lankan might succeed one day. There’s a reason why China and India support Myanmar against the Rohingya Muslims.
