FORMER prime minister Najib Razak earned a pre-tax monthly salary of RM78,451.64 from 2015 until last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court heard today.
Farah Nurdiana Azhar, the head of the MPs’ affairs division at the Secretariat of Parliament, said between January 2015 and March 2018, MPs with cabinet positions were paid RM16,000 a month and Najib, as leader of the House (Ketua Dewan), received an additional RM3,846.59.
Another witness, Zarinah Yousuf, who is deputy chief accountant (operations) at the Prime Minister’s Department testified, that Najib was paid an additional RM58,605.15 as prime minister.
As prime minister, Najib received an administrative salary of RM22,826.65, cabinet minister’s allowance of RM8,500, housing allowance of RM4,000, entertainment allowance of RM16,978, housing upkeep and maid allowance of RM4,800 and an additional RM1,500 in federal administration salary.
For his prime minister’s income, Najib was taxed RM6,417.95, resulting in a post-tax salary of RM52,187.20.
Najib was paid such an amount as prime minister every month since May 2009. Between January and April 2009, Najib was paid RM48,668.65. per month as deputy prime minister.
He also received RM1,017,014.39 in May, last year, as a part of a cabinet approved special payment after stepping down as prime minister. Najib was chairman of Barisan Nasional, which was defeated at the May 9 polls last year.
