Nik Faisal Ariff's bid to hide thwarted by my 2015 exposé, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador today claimed that his 'premature' exposé of Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil's whereabouts in 2015 had led to the man's escape bid being aborted.
Speaking to reporters this morning, the top cop said there was an effort to hide the former SRC International Sdn Bhd director, but this was thwarted by the revelation and forced Nik Faisal to find another place to hide.
"Remember the day I revealed that there was an effort to hide him somewhere, and an effort to migrate him to a certain country?
"But it didn't happen because it was prematurely exposed by me.
"He was there once, but now he is somewhere else," Hamid told a press conference during the launching of Ops Selamat at Menara TM in Bangsar this morning.
Hamid was referring to a press conference he held in August 2015, where he revealed that there was an attempt to hide key witnesses in the SRC International case with assistance of some people who have power.
Then the deputy director of police's Special Branch, Hamid claimed that one of the witnesses was hiding in New Zealand after having been in Indonesia and Thailand.
During the conference today, he added that police know Nik Faisal's whereabouts, but stopped short from revealing the information.
However, he denied that the man is in Indonesia where his second wife is.
"Yes we do (know where he is).
"He is not in Indonesia. His second wife is. He was there once."
Nik Faisal Ariff is among the most important witness in the ongoing SRC International trial against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
He had been named by witnesses in the trial as the person who has control of Najib's AmBank accounts, into which a sum of RM42 million were allegedly credited into.
However, efforts to bring him in to testify in the hearing has yet to be successful as authorities investigating the case since 2015 had yet to be able to interview the former director. - Mkini
