Office closed not because I lost party polls, says Moyog rep Jennifer Lasimbang

KOTA KINABALU: Moyog state assemblyman Jennifer Lasimbang (pic) has decided to close down her assemblyman's office, but it has nothing to do with her feeling sore for losing in the recent Parti Warisan Sabah Wanita polls.
According to a WhatsApp message she sent to her staff, which is circulating on social media, she also allowed her staff to go on a break until further notice.
"I am disappointed not because I lost in the party polls but because no one even bothered to come and support me (except) a few," the message read.
"After losing, only a third sent encouraging messages to me. With this, I give all staff leave until further notice. The DUN office is closed until further notice," she said in the message.
She said that her decision to close her assemblyman's office has nothing to do with her disappointment at not winning the Warisan Wanita deputy chief's post.
"My plan to close down the office has nothing to do with my disappointment with my staff for having shown a lack of moral support," she said.
She said the message that she wrote and shared among her staff made it appear as if she had dismissed all her staff for not showing her support after her defeat.
"I am disappointed but this has nothing to do with the reason for me instructing them to go on leave until further notice and closing the office," Lasimbang said.
She believes that an irresponsible individual leaked the message, which was only meant for her staff.
Lasimbang clarified she had been thinking about closing the office for a while to set up a mobile office to better serve her constituents.
She added that this would be more suitable in Moyog, which covers a wide area where communities are scattered.
She also said that the plan to go mobile was also due to her realisation that there were overlapping roles between her office and the Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat (UPPM).
She has six dedicated staff in her office and ten in the UPPM office.
Lasimbang stressed that she never asked them to resign but only to go on leave as she was also revamping the office.
She intends to turn the existing office into a creativity and innovation centre for entrepreneurs in her constituency, similar to that of the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC).- Star
