PAS happy with turnout for Ummah rally

PAS appears satisfied with the number of attendance at Gerakan Pembela Ummah (Ummah)'s "defend Islam" rally in the city centre yesterday.
Its vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Mat described the crowd size as "a lot," and deemed the rally a success despite being announced just a week prior.
"The rally managed to bring awareness to the people against the threats which have befallen the Muslims," he told Malaysiakini.
Ummah claimed the rally had attracted 10,000 participants.
A police source had said the number of rallygoers totalled 3,000, while Malaysiakinireported that about 1,000 participated at the rally, including senior Umno leaders.
According to Tuan Ibrahim (photo), a myriad of NGOs and political leaders attending the rally yesterday were able to express their concerns on various issues regarding Islam.
PAS claims that among those under pressured include the rulers, mufti, preachers, and the institution of religion.
Tuan Ibrahim said the protest was also a show of solidarity for those "victimised" by the Pakatan Harapan government – citing issues such as the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the national language, and the Unified Examination Certificate.
Following the rally, PAS will hand over a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Conference of Rulers, and Parliament to scrutinise these issues.
"Hopefully, swift action will be taken after the memorandum is passed," he said.
For the record, an inquest has been launched to determine the cause of Adib's death, who succumbed to injury following the Seafield temple riots last year. - Mkini
