Pasir Gudang MP and Johor PKR chief Hassan Abdul Karim was granted a full acquittal on three sedition charges by the Shah Alam High Court yesterday.
When contacted, his lawyer Latheefa Koya said Shah Alam High Court judge Ab Karim Ab Rahman had accepted her client’s notice of appeal yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, Hassan told Malaysiakini that the judge ruled that a lower court had erred in granting him a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.
Last July, the prosecution had agreed to withdraw Hassan's sedition charges. However, Sessions Court judge Ahmad Zamzani Mohd Zain only allowed for a discharge without acquittal.
This meant that Hassan could possibly have faced charges again.Hassan was accused of making seditious remarks aimed at the Selangor palace through a series of tweets in 2014.
The tweets related to the delay in the appointment of a new menteri besar. - Mkini
