PKR to discuss sexual harassment claim against Kesavan

The PKR political bureau meeting is expected to discuss the sexual harassment allegation against Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan tomorrow.
PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin said the meeting will decide whether to initiate an internal investigation on Kesavan.
"PKR will hold a political bureau meeting tomorrow and this matter will be discussed.
"The party will make a decision. So, we'll wait for the outcome," she told a press conference at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Zuraida was asked whether the party would consider investigating Kesavan following a press statement by the Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) yesterday which urged the party to conduct an internal probe.
“We urge PKR to take this sexual harassment accusation seriously and immediately launch an internal investigation. PKR should appoint an investigation panel that is independent, has expertise on sexual harassment and gender-diverse,” JAG said.
Earlier, Zuraida, who is the housing and local government minister, was attending an event organised by the NGO Soroptimist International, which is hosting an international convention in July.
Both Kesavan and the alleged victim, who is a former Sungai Siput PKR treasurer, had lodged police reports against each other.
The woman had accused the MP of sexually harassing her as well as sending her pornographic messages and showing her a Kamasutra book.
Kesavan, who denied the allegation, claimed the woman is smitten with him and wanted to wreck his marriage.
In response, the woman said she was mulling to file a defamation suit against the lawmaker and the latter said he was prepared to face the matter in court. - Mkini
