PM denies political interference in civil servants' duties

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has denied there are political appointees interfering in the duties of civil servants.
Instead, he said, the statement by the Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) on such a matter was just a misunderstanding.
"No one disturbs. Sometimes there will be a reprimand, if there is a disagreement.
"There's no disturbance, just misunderstanding," Mahathir told a press conference after attending a function in Putrajaya earlier today.
The prime minister was responding to a claim by Cuepacs president Azih Muda (photo) that even a year after Pakatan Harapan had taken federal power, the congress still receives complaints from civil servants about interference in their duties.
"To this day, we are still receiving complaints about political appointees interfering in the duties of our civil servants," Azih had told a press conference yesterday.
If the problem persists, civil servants should not be faulted, if it takes longer for the new government to reach their goals, he added.  - Mkini
