SEREMBAN: A rubber tapper claimed trial at the Sessions Court here Friday (May 10) to a charge of molesting his 16-year-old stepdaughter last month.
The 26-year-old pleaded not guilty after the interpreter read the charge to him before judge Junaidah Mohd Isa.
He allegedly committed the offence at 10.35pm on April 27 at a house in Johol, Kuala Pilah.
He was charged under section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum 20 years' jail and whipping upon conviction.
The accused, who was not represented, appealed to the court for a low bail as he had to provide for his pregnant wife.
Junaidah then fixed bail at RM7,000 and told the accused not to live in the same house or contact the victim.
She also told him to report to the nearest police station on the 15th of every month.
The case will be re-mentioned on June 17.- Star
