Senior citizen receives new Mykad after 4 decades

JERTIH: After 40 years of waiting, a 71-year-old who lost his identity card finally received the document today.
And the reason Embong Muhamad was without a proper MyKad all these years has nothing to do with the National Registration Department (NRD).
Rather, it was because he was told by some irresponsible individuals that he could make do with a temporary card.
The new MyKad and a new birth certificate were handed over to Embong at his house at Kampung Lay Out Gerai here by NRD director-general Ruslin Jusoh.
In another development, Ruslin said there were some 20,000 MyKads throughout the country which were unclaimed by the owners since 18 months ago.
He said the owners have been given until the end of the year to claim them before action was taken.
Ruslin said that from May 2, NRD has reduced the validity period of a temporary identification document for those applying for the MyKad from 90 days to 30 days. - FMT
