Sunway University lodges report over threats made on social media

PETALING JAYA: Sunway University has lodged a police report over threats aimed at private colleges and universities being circulated on social media.

Sunway Education Group and Sunway University senior executive director Elizabeth Lee (pic) said they have reported the matter to the authorities.

"(The authorities) are monitoring the situation. Please be assured that our students and staff safety and security remain our priority wherever possible and our own security enforcement agencies are alerted on the situation," she said in a statement on Tuesday (May 14).

Lee encouraged the Sunway community to be aware of their surroundings and to inform security personnel or staff of suspicious person(s) or activities.

Another private university said they immediately contacted law enforcement on the matter.

"We will be cooperating fully with them.

"We have heightened security on campus and will continue to be vigilant in ensuring the safety of our people and campus," it said when contacted. - Star
