Terengganu MB: Best to keep quiet about 'lying' claims

Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said it would be best for him to remain silent on claims that he had lied to the media over the status of state government-linked company (GLC) Permint Mineral Sdn Bhd (PMSB).
Instead, Ahmad Samsuri said he would leave the matter to the mining company that made the allegations against him for any further actions it wants to take.
"I feel that if they are referring to what I said, if they think what I said was not right, I will leave it up to them.
"Whatever the next steps will be, we have nothing more to say and I feel it would be best for us to remain silent and let them proceed with what they want to do," Samsuri told Malaysiakini when met at Putrajaya International Convention Centre recently.
On May 21, R Rajagopal, the managing director of Golden Mineral Sdn Bhd (GMSB) – which recently won a suit against PMSB – claimed that Samsuri issued a false statement last week when he said that the GLC had been dissolved.
Rajagopal was referring to Samsuri's statement that he would leave the matter of settling the GMSB suit against PMSB to due process, as reported by Malay-daily Berita Harian on May 15.
Samsuri added that there was nothing the Terengganu government could do, as PMSB had already been dissolved, and that the legal dispute was a business issue between two companies.
The Court of Appeal had in September 2018 ordered PSMB to pay RM15.3 million compensation for loss of profits.
The compensation was for 20 months between August 2010 and March 2012, when GMSB could not carry out mining activities in Kemaman due to a contract dispute between both parties.
The court decision was upheld by the Federal Court on March 14, this year. Mkini
