Umno will be in trouble if the party does not reform itself within the coming year, warned senator Khairul Azwan Harun.
This is because they may be outstripped by an improved Pakatan Harapan and DAP.
"My predictions are that within the next upcoming year, Harapan will probably get their act together.
"DAP, for all their dumbness, will eventually learn how to appease the Malay voters.
"And when that happens, Umno will be in trouble. It would be too late for us," he said in a statement today.
The former Umno Youth vice-chief said the party's changes since losing on May 9 have been minimal.
And while it is a better opposition than Harapan, he said, Umno is currently too dependent on Harapan's failures as a government rather than rebranding itself as a viable choice for the public.
Likewise, he added, while Umno's partnership with PAS is "formidable", it is not enough to win the country back.
"Fundamentally, Umno needs to continue restructuring, getting rid of money politics, blind loyalty and extreme opinions.
"A lot more needs to be done to tackle this. There are still four years to go. A lot can happen," he said - Mkini
