SANDAKAN POLLS | Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her husband Port Dickson MP Anwar Ibrahim are expected to join the DAP campaign in Sandakansoon.
Wan Azizah will be coming to Sandakan tomorrow (Sunday), whereas Anwar, who is also the PKR president, is scheduled to come to Sandakan sometime next week.
This was confirmed by both their respective aides when contacted by Malaysiakini.
However, Anwar’s aide has yet to confirm whether he will be attending an iftar event in Sandakan on May 7, as advertised on a banner spotted by Malaysiakini.
Both DAP and their Sabah partner Warisan have their conventions this weekend so it is unlikely that any leaders from those parties will make an appearance in Sandakan this weekend.
The Sandakan parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of its incumbent Stephen Wong on March 28.
DAP is fielding his youngest daughter, Vivian Wong, in the by-election, where she will go up against Parti Bersatu Sabah’s (PBS) candidate Linda Tsen and three other independents - Hamzah Abdullah, Chia Siew Yong and Sulaiman Abdul Samad.
Polling day is set to be held on May 11.
