PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has conveyed his condolences to the family of Cesar Pelli, the Argentine architect behind the Petronas Twin Towers who died at 92 on Friday (July 19).
“My condolences to Cesar’s family,” Dr Mahathir said.
“I am sad to hear the news of the passing of the great architect who designed the Twin Towers in Malaysia, Mr. Cesar Pelli of Argentina. He was in New York when he came here to design this iconic building in Malaysia,” he added.
Along with the Petronas Towers, Pelli's famous works include the World Financial Center in New York, the Canary Wharf Tower in London and renovation work on  the New York Museum of Modern Art.

The Petronas Towers were the tallest buildings in the world in the 1990s.

In 1977, Pelli became the dean of Yale University's School of Architecture and founded Cesar Pelli & Associates, according to a biography on the website of the New Haven, Connecticut-based studio, which has since been renamed Pelli Clarke Pelli.
