Turkey keen on helping Malaysia develop defence industry, says Mat Sabu

Turkey has shown interest in helping Malaysia develop its defence industry, Mohamad Sabu said today.
Speaking to reporters after visiting his alma mater in Bukit Mertajam today, the defence minister said this followed the visit of a high-level Malaysian delegation to the country.
"Turkey is part of the Nato alliance, the country has strong credentials in defence," he said.
"Malaysia would have a strong partner if we work together to develop the defence industry in the country.
“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan himself had admitted that Turkey is ready to cooperate with us."
On purchasing military equipment from Turkey, Mohamad said Malaysia was open to doing business with any country as long as this equipment is a "fit" for local security forces.
Malaysia is considering buying Turkey's unmanned aerial vehicles and military transport devices, he added.
“As they are Nato-level, Turkey's high-level military equipment is impressive," he said.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently visited Turkey, and expressed his appreciation for its willingness to offer technology transfer in aerospace and defence industries.
During his visit, Mahathir witnessed an exhibition of Turkey's latest defence and military aerospace exports, such as drones and helicopters.
Earlier, Mohamad said that he was grateful for the lessons he learned in SMK Bukit Mertajam, where he completed his secondary education.
In the 'Sirih Pulang Ke Gagang' high-tea event, the minister thanked his teachers, saying the school set him on the path to his future life and career.
"I am who I am today because of my school education," he said. - Mkini
