Police have picked up 18 African men in regards with the assault against four cops during an operation at Flora Damansara Apartment in Petaling Jaya on Thursday.
Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador (above) said they were arrested to facilitate investigation into the case.
It is learned that 10 of them were picked up last week, while the rest were arrested around midnight yesterday.
Hamid said the police’s approach in tackling this matter must not be seen as targeting a certain nationality, but rather an enforcement against violent acts.
“The police’s approach in this issue, I don’t want it seen as if we are targeting a certain nationality.
“Police have identified the assailants… definitely we don’t discount violent acts. The attack against cops was unacceptable,” he told the media in Kuala Lumpur.
In the incident, four cops were attacked while trying to arrest a Nigerian man suspected of being involved in an African scam.
One of the victims sustained injuries on his face.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin (above), in a statement, condemned the behaviour against police personnel.
“About 50 African men had assaulted four cops on duty… I have instructed a full investigation and action to be taken against them,” he said.
He also advised foreigners who visit this country to be well behaved and respect the law, as the government will not compromise with any parties who break the law or obstruct authorities from carrying out their duties.
