PETALING JAYA: Motorists rushing home for the Chinese New Year holidays are ignoring the reminder not to use the emergency lanes.

The road transport department (JPJ) said more than 100 vehicles were recorded driving on the emergency lane along the North-South Expressway from Johor Bahru to Putrajaya during a four-hour period between 10am and 2pm today.

Bernama said the JPJ officers had mounted the special operation along all highways nationwide for this festive period.

JPJ, in a statement on Facebook today, said driving on the emergency lane was among seven offences that were not compoundable.

“It will land you straight in court,” it warned.

Besides using the emergency lane, the other offences are queue-jumping, overtaking on double lines, beating the red light, speeding, using the handphone while driving, and not using a seat belt or helmet.

Complaints on traffic offences can be channelled through e-Aduan@jpj on the MyJPJ application or through email to aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my. - FMT
