KUALA LUMPUR: A contractor is being investigated after a panel from a building under construction fell on a parked car in Jalan Ampang here this morning, damaging the vehicle’s roof and side.
The driver was away at the time in a nearby convenience store.
A stop work order has been issued to the contractor by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), which said a panel of aluminium formwork had fallen on the car.
“An initial report said the incident occurred at about 9am while work was being conducted to open the aluminium panels on the 55th floor. One of the panels fell and hit a vehicle parked by the roadside opposite the project site,” CIDB said in a statement.
Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the incident happened at 8.45am after a staging plate fell from the 56th floor.
The occupational safety and health department said construction workers had been removing formwork, a mould into which concrete is poured, when the incident happened.
The department’s federal territories director Zamzurin Maarof said statements would be recorded from the workers and the car’s driver tomorrow. - FMT
