Police have launched an investigation into a report that hidden cameras were found in a clothing store’s changing rooms at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur.
The probe was triggered after a Twitter user made a police report on a viral clip of the recordings from the cameras. The video has since been removed from the social media site.
Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said in a statement that the report was lodged on Monday and that investigations are currently underway.
“An investigation is ongoing to identify the date and location of the incident. These actions are an offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code,” he said.
Under Section 509 of the Penal Code, anybody who knowingly insults a woman's modesty through speech, sound, gesture, or display of an object is subject to a term of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
The police have asked the public to contact investigating officer Fikri Abdul Manan at 013 - 414 9917, the KL police’s hotline at 03 - 2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station should they have any information regarding the matter. - Mkini
