Malacca announces public holiday for civil servants on first day of Ramadan

The Malacca government has announced a special holiday for all state and federal civil servants in the state on the first day of Ramadan, which is expected to fall on Feb 19.

Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said this was in appreciation of the tireless service of all civil servants in Malacca who worked hard to implement various programmes last year.

"Some even have husbands complaining in the comments, saying, ‘I feel sorry for you, my wife has to work even on weekends!‘ I understand... I heard and I really understand... this is the true picture of the commitment of Malacca civil servants, willing to work day and night, in the rain and heat, leaving their beloved families for the people of Malacca.

"Hopefully, this holiday can be put to good use to make preparations to celebrate Ramadan with their families. Hopefully, with this Ramadan holiday, we can bring those who are far away closer, and those who have not been able to be together for a long time can be reunited," he said.

He said this when speaking at the 2026 New Year's Address themed Year of Implementation: Sustainability Indicators, Fulfilling Trust, Strengthening Performance at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Ayer Keroh today.

Also present were Malacca legislative assembly speaker Ibrahim Durum and Malacca state secretary Azhar Arshad.

According to the announcement, Malacca will have four consecutive public holidays starting with the Chinese New Year celebration on Feb 17 and 18, the special holiday of the first day of Ramadan (Feb 19), the Independence Day of the Federation of Malaya (Feb 20) and weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday (Feb 21 and 22).
