KOTA BARU: Pas has welcomed any effort by other political parties that moves towards the unity of the ummah in the context of the country, its deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.
The Kubang Kerian member of Parliament said Pas always supports initiatives that promote unity and inclusiveness among the people.
"We welcome efforts to spearhead the unity of the ummah involving all parties, including political parties, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as non-Muslims who are not extremists," he said.
The Kubang Kerian member of Parliament added that Pas is open to cooperation with political parties and NGOs, whether Islamic or non-Islamic, comprising various races, as long as the objective is to strengthen unity.
Tuan Ibrahim said the Tekad Ummah agenda, as mentioned by Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, is in line with the party's long-standing call repeatedly emphasised by the Pas president — for the ummah to remain united.
Dr Akmal recently raised questions over why Umno continues to hold grudges against Pas despite it being a party that shares the same religion and race.
On the Melaka state election expected to be held this year, Tuan Ibrahim said the party has already begun early preparations.
"In the context of the party, we have started our early preparations. We are anticipating the election and Pas is ready, with candidates already prepared," he said.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh recently has confirmed that the Melaka state election will be held this year.
He said the dissolution of the state legislative assembly would take place this year, paving the way for the polls. - NST
