UMNO AGM | Puteri Umno chief Nurul Amal Fauzi started off the winding-up speeches after debates of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s presidential address today with a cautionary reminder against remarks that degrade her members.
Nurul Amal urged Malacca Umno delegate Mustafa Musa, who was the last debater, to retract his remarks made as a “pantun” (poem) that described Puteri members as “getik” or acting in a flirtatious manner.
“Firstly, I would like to request the Malacca delegate to withdraw his remarks. What did he call Puteri? ‘Getik’ or ‘gedik’.
“Please retract that. As Puteri members today, most of us have at least a degree, so don’t describe us that way. That’s not nice,” she said.
“Here we are so loyal to the party, just like that, we are dismissed,” she added.
Mustafa had earlier said, “If Pemuda (Youth) are not naughty, if Puteri are not ‘getik’, if Wanita does not chatter, if Umno (men) do not shout, then democracy will be dead.”
Nurul Amal underscored Puteri’s request for greater representation in election candidacies, as well as their hope for the party’s role in government.
“Puteri is of the view that while we are now a part of government, when it comes time to face the next election, Umno must be ready to walk alone.
