UMNO AGM | A Terengganu Umno delegate today said anyone seeking to revive the party’s alliance with PAS under the Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact must first be aware of the state chapter’s experience.
Nurhisam Johari said that, unlike in other states, Terengganu Umno is more disappointed with PAS’ attitude than with DAP.
“Just like in states where there is DAP, and they are disappointed with DAP’s various antics, we in Terengganu are 2,000 times more disappointed with PAS’ attitude and behaviour.
“Therefore, ask us if efforts to restore MN are still on some of our lips.
“Even so, we in Terengganu, as guardians of the ‘house of the nation’ and the original home of Malay politics, will still comply if genuine tolerance and sincere repentance can be proven,” he said.
Nurhisam (above) was speaking during the debate of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s presidential address at the party’s general assembly in Kuala Lumpur.

Previously, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh urged unity between the two largest Malay political parties, Umno and PAS.
Akmal also floated the idea of reviving MN to promote the unity of the Muslim community, while urging the party to leave the Madani government.
Schemes and tricks in Muafakat Nasional
Elaborating, Nurhisam said for more than 60 years, the two Malay-Muslim parties have been traditional enemies, both during elections and outside of them.
Throughout that period, he said, PAS had hurled various accusations at Umno - branding the party and its members as hypocrites, infidels, rejecting Islam, and even likening Umno to various animal traits.
“When there are efforts to bring Umno and PAS together to form MN 2.0, the bitter and terrifying experience of more than 60 years, as well as the costly experience we endured for over a year under MN 1.0, must be taken as lessons.

“In Terengganu, during MN 1.0, Umno suffered from all kinds of tricks. Umno was abused with all kinds of schemes. Umno was sidelined at will with various excuses,” he added.
Change or be buried in Perlis
Meanwhile, Perlis delegate Yusuff Man said Umno must “change its recipe” in facing the upcoming Perlis state election, which is due by mid-February 2028.
“If we repeat the old recipe, we will lose even worse. Don’t repeat old mistakes. Don’t choose candidates based on positions, but instead on acceptance by the grassroots.
“Don’t allow factional politics to run rampant, don’t allow the culture of internal sabotage to continue.
“If past mistakes remain, then the next state election will not be Umno’s comeback arena - it will be Umno’s burial ceremony in Perlis,” he said.
