Selangor open to review alternative sites for pig farm relocation

THE Selangor state government has not finalised any alternative location for relocating pig farms from Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat, to the proposed centralised site in Bukit Tagar, Hulu Selangor.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that while Bukit Tagar remains under discussion, other options will be considered if necessary.

“So far, there is no other location, but we will identify and later review other sites if necessary.

“The current location is still under discussion, and I believe Yang Berhormat (Selangor Exco for Infrastructure and Agriculture), Datuk Izham (Hashim), has already provided several explanations on why that location was chosen,” he said to a local Malay language portal at the Adab dan Warisan Sendeng Nusantara 2026 ceremony on Saturday.

He said the plan is to shut down poorly managed existing farms and replace them with a more controlled, comprehensive facility.

“The proposal adopts a ‘zero discharge’ concept with no discharge into rivers.

“However, we do not reject the possibility of reviewing it again and will do so promptly because we can no longer allow the existing area (Tanjung Sepat) to continue operating unchecked,” he said.

He also explained that the proposed project spans approximately 200 hectares, including a buffer zone designed to reduce odour, noise, and separate farming activities from public areas.

There is also a buffer zone that will distance the operations from the public and other activities.

“The actual farming area is smaller; the rest is the buffer zone,” he said.

Amirudin emphasised openness to dialogue, reliance on data and legal grounds over sentiment, and public understanding of the need for better management. —  Focus Malaysia
