UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that two parties have applied to rejoin UMNO en bloc, with all membership applications set to be reviewed by the newly formed Rumah Bangsa Unification Committee.
One of the applicants is Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan), led by former UMNO member Tan Sri Kadir Sheikh Fadzir. Ahmad Zahid revealed that he had spoken with Tan Sri Kadir, who expressed his intention to hand over Ikatan for absorption into UMNO.
He said this during his winding-up speech at the UMNO General Assembly 2025 today.
The Deputy Prime Minister also announced the appointment of UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin as chairman of the Rumah Bangsa committee to ensure all applications are processed strictly in accordance with UMNO’s rules and constitution.
Addressing concerns from party members about whether returning former members could be fielded as candidates in upcoming elections, Zahid emphasised that the final decision rests solely with him as BN Chairman.
“I am still the BN Chairman who will sign the nomination letters, so the decision is in my hands,” he said.
“Even if those seats were previously held by them, if they join UMNO, I will still make the decision on who will contest,” Zahid added. — Focus Malaysia
