
JOHOR BARU: The Department of Environment has flagged an oleochemical processing plant in Pasir Gudang for discharging untreated effluent into a river.
The Department of Environment (DoE) said it issued the plant with an equipment seizure order under Section 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act.
In a statement, the department said its investigations found the plant's industrial effluent treatment system was malfunctioning and failed to comply with environmental regulations.
It added that the equipment seizure order was issued to stop the continued discharge of the brown, untreated effluent into Sungai Daeng.
The plant has been ordered to carry out remedial work while the order is in effect. - NST
