“UMNO’s ‘wish prayer’ for Bossku – a proven guilty corruptor – is an insult to Malays, Islam!”

SUCH is how some sensible Malay Muslims reacted to the Solat Hajat Perdana Demi Najib 3.0 (literally Prime Wish Prayer 3.0) on Saturday (Jan 17) which coincided with the final day of the 2025 UMNO General Assembly.

Organised by the UMNO Youth, the event is to seek divine ease in the affairs of disgraced former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is currently serving a prison sentence.

It is deemed a symbol of solidarity and hope for UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters who continued to pray for the well-being, strength and justice for the former UMNO president in line with the principles of Islamic justice and the country’s rule of law.

In expressing hope that Najib would one day return to Dewan Merdeka of the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) which houses the UMNO headquarters, the party’s rightist Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh claimed that Bossku had rendered immense service to the party and the nation.

Detractors or otherwise, it came as a surprise that even some Malay-Muslims were seemingly opposed to solat hajat public spectacle as evident from a Facebook of entrepreneur and mindset coach Mencius Koay.

“Really don’t know what these people were trying to portray … Absolute embarrassment to the Malays and Islam,” decried commenter Shahrum Mohd Husain from Kuantan.

While non-Malay commenters hailed Shahrum’s reaction, some fellow Muslims, too, sounded disapproval that “religion has been weaponised to defend criminals”, particularly when Bossku’s defence counsel was unable to prove that “the RM2.6 bil came from the Arab royalty while the MACC pointed to the money having come from 1MDB”.

“”I wonder why UMNO Youth continues to defend DSNR who has been found guilty and punished by the court. The UMNO mob continues to mislead the mind of the rakyat with lies,” fumed one Bahrudin Jawadi. “Come next election, please don’t vote UMNO.”

Other Malay Muslims lamented that religion has been tormented by a “hypocritical bunch” to “pray for a criminal who by default is a proven guilty corruptor”. “God please save this country 🙏,” prayed one Hezri Dean instead.

Interestingly, many Malay-Muslims also came forward to oppose the UMNO Youth solat hajat event in the original Astro Awani FB post as “worshipping a criminal” when such prayer should best be directed at seeking “Allah’s protection that our country is free from corrupt and abusive leaders”.

Below is more evidence that Malay Muslims at large have rejected UMNO’s attempt to glorify the world’s biggest plunderer.
