Teen only son last saw family at Ramadan bazaar before fatal Raub fire

RAUB: The only son of the family of five who perished in a house fire at Kampung Pamah Kulat today last saw his loved ones at his father's stall at the Ramadan bazaar in Dong yesterday.

Ahmad Balia Murqam Mohd Alawi, 15, who stays at the nearby SMK Dong dormitory, said he had gone to the bazaar with a teacher to buy food for breaking fast with his hostel mates and stopped by his father's stall.

"My father sells kuih and drinks at his stall… I only took a drink and met my family there. This morning, my uncle came to my school around 5am to pick me up, and that was when I was told about the fire," he told reporters at the Raub Hospital forensic unit.

Ahmad Balia, a Form Three student, and his 19-year-old sister, who is studying at a matriculation college in Gambang, were not at home during the 3.30am blaze.

The tragedy claimed the lives of their father, Mohd Awi Muhammad, 56; mother, Zaleha Adam @ Ibrahim, 44; and three sisters, Ruby Adira Batrisya Mohd Alawi, 18, Ruby Adlina Banin, 14, and Ruby Azyan Barizah, 10. - NST
