
KUALA LUMPUR: Seven areas in the Peninsula reached Level 2 (heatwave) status as of this morning, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The affected areas include Perlis, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Sik and Baling in Kedah; and Hulu Perak in Perak.
A weather update released at 6am today also showed that 13 other areas in the Peninsula are currently at Level 1 (alert) status.
These areas are Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Pulau Langkawi, Kuala Muda and Kulim-Bandar Baharu in Kedah; Northeast and North Penang; Selama, Kinta, Kuala Kangsar and Central Perak in Perak; and Jerantut, Pahang.
A Level 2 heatwave status is declared when maximum daily temperatures range between 37°C and 40°C for at least three consecutive days.
Level 1 status refers to daily maximum temperatures reaching between 35°C and 37°C for at least three consecutive days. - NST
