Rafizi: Alleged conversation with Na'imah 'obviously AI'

Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has denied discussing toppling the government with Na’imah Abdul Khalid, as alleged in an audio clip, saying he does not speak on the phone and that the recording was fabricated with artificial intelligence.

The Pandan MP claimed on Facebook that one of the voices in the audio clip could not be his, as he “never answered the phone or spoke on the phone” because he believes the government is monitoring him.

“That is why I do not even have WhatsApp. I have never picked up the phone, what more to have such a conversation with Na’imah.

“(They can) try again. Perhaps after this, they can use AI (artificial intelligence) to make it like I was rapping a bit,” he said.

In his Facebook post, Rafizi said anyone in their right mind would know that the clip was made using AI.

The former PKR deputy president was responding to a 23-second audio clip that had gone viral on TikTok since yesterday.

It featured the voices of two people supposedly discussing a US-based strategic communications firm, with photos of Rafizi and Na’imah in the background.

Na’imah and her children are under investigation for allegedly plotting to topple the government.

‘Plan to pressure Anwar, Azam’

This came after police received a report that a “prominent individual” had allegedly held an online meeting in July last year, discussing a purported plan to use international media outlets to mount pressure on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Daim’s two children, two lawyers, and several representatives of an international strategic communications firm purportedly attended the meeting.

Na’imah has since denied the allegation and claimed the police report was clearly the “conduct of a disgruntled man.” - Mkini
