PETALING JAYA:
Permatang assemblyman Nurul Syazwani Noh has resigned as Wanita Bersatu information chief effective immediately.

Syazwani, the daughter of former Bersatu Supreme Council member Noh Omar, said her resignation followed the suspension of the wing’s chief, Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, earlier today.

“In light of the recent developments which saw her suspended from the position, I feel it would be the principled move for me to also relinquish the role entrusted to me.

“The party, which should serve as a platform for our collective struggle, now appears to be going through a very challenging phase in terms of leadership stability and internal unity,” she said in a statement.

The first-term assemblyman said these developments not only affected the leadership structure of the women’s wing but also put off grassroots members and the public.

“Elected representatives who were elected by the people are being subjected to dismissals and suspensions. This creates the perception that the people’s voice and mandate are not being fully respected,” Syazwani said.

She urged the Bersatu top leadership to assess the situation carefully and ensure the party did not stray from its struggle.

Mas Ermieyati and Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee, both formerly of Umno, were suspended by Bersatu earlier today.

They were among those who attended a gathering backing Hamzah Zainudin on Feb 14, a day after the former Bersatu deputy president was sacked by the party.

Syazwani’s father, Noh, had also resigned from the Bersatu top leadership after Hamzah’s sacking. - FMT
