BUKIT MERTAJAM: Two childcare centre employees, both 22, have been remanded for a week in connection with the death of a four-month-old infant yesterday.
Magistrate Roshayati Radellah granted the remand order after police applied for it to facilitate their investigation.
The two women were detained yesterday following the incident.
Earlier, the suspects arrived at the Bukit Mertajam court around 8.35am in a police van.
Both, handcuffed, were dressed in purple lock-up attire.
Each shielded her face from press photographers and cameramen.
State police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed that police had launched a murder investigation following the death of four-month-old Hayl Haarith Mohd Syafaeez at a childcare centre yesterday morning.
The baby was found unresponsive at the 24-hour childcare centre located within the grounds of Seberang Jaya Hospital.
He was rushed to the hospital's emergency department at about 4am after his mother, Ummu Habibah Wahab, 30, a staff nurse on the night shift, received a call saying her son's face had turned blue.
Doctors performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for an hour, but the baby could not be revived.
The infant had only just been sent to the centre after his mother returned to work following her confinement period.
This is her first child.
The infant's family is now demanding justice over his death.
His father, Mohd Syafaeez Mat Liki, 35, said he would never forgive the perpetrator. - NST
