PETALING JAYA:
Progressive Democratic Party is pushing for fairer representation at the Sarawak state assembly, Parliament and local councils while remaining in Gabungan Parti Sarawak, the party’s deputy president Henry Harry Jinep said.

Henry said PDP president Tiong King Sing has been “working hard” to ensure the party receives a more equitable quota of seats, the Dayak Daily reported.

Speaking at the party’s general assembly in Sibu, Henry said a united PDP could convince GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg to allocate more seats to the party. Cooperation between the party leadership and grassroots members remains important to ensure PDP’s voice continues to be heard in Sarawak’s political landscape, he said.

“It does not matter if we are small. When the premier (Abang Johari) sees PDP as strong, he will give us more seats,” Henry was quoted as saying.

PDP currently has two MPs: Tiong in Bintulu and Anyi Ngau in Baram. The party also has eight members at the state assembly, five seats won in the 2021 state election, and three more when Parti Sarawak Bersatu was absorbed by PDP in 2024. - FMT
