Sg Ujong chieftain's office challenges eviction order, demands proof of dismissal

The office of disputed Sungai Ujong chieftain Mubarak Thahak has challenged the Negeri Sembilan state government’s order to vacate the undang’s official residence and council hall.

In an official letter dated yesterday, Mubarak’s aide Ahmad Hanafi Ruzlan demanded that the state secretary’s office prove its instruction was made on a valid and lawful basis.

This includes furnishing the relevant documents on Mubarak’s supposed sacking, including meeting minutes from a Council of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the Ruling Chiefs (Dewan Keadilan dan Undang) special sitting on April 17.

According to Hanafi, the council secretary, Raja Norazli Raja Nordin, has refused to furnish the documents despite having told him they existed.

“As such, there is confusion over whether this directive (to vacate) is based on the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar’s media statement dated April 20, 2026, or on the official letter and minutes of the special sitting on April 17 at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

“It also raises the question of why these documents have yet to be submitted to the Balai Undang Luak Sungai Ujong to this day.

“We require written confirmation that the notice to vacate premises was issued on a valid and lawful basis, and not merely on verbal notification or a media statement that remains disputed and subject to calls for detailed clarification,” Hanafi said in the letter, which Malaysiakini sighted.

He also said that the Sungai Ujong chieftain’s office is now managing a crisis and, regarding the dispute over Mubarak’s position, it is important for all parties involved to be allowed to resolve the issue.

“The sudden eviction from the premises without any certainty will disrupt our ongoing recovery efforts, and if the order to vacate the Balai Undang Luak Sungai Ujong is enforced, we fear it could trigger public unrest and disputes, potentially leading to a more serious situation,” he said.

Earlier yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the Negeri Sembilan state government has ordered the Sungai Ujong undang’s official residence and council hall to be vacated.

The state secretary’s office issued the order on Wednesday via a letter, citing a purported decision by the Council of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the Ruling Chiefs to sack Mubarak as the Sungai Ujong undang.

Mubarak and the other chieftains have disputed the dismissal, arguing, among others, that the nobles who had moved to sack Mubarak were themselves removed from office due to alleged corruption.

Mubarak’s dismissal was the catalyst that prompted the Undang Yang Empat to push for Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir to be dethroned as Yang di-Pertuan Besar. - Mkini
