Man jailed 26 months for pelting cars with rocks on Sprint Highway

 Six motorists filed reports after their vehicles were damaged near Bukit Damansara, with losses estimated at over RM20,000.

Police seized a waist pouch which contained several stones and a modified pair of scissors from the suspect after receiving reports that several vehicles had been pelted with stones on the Sprint Highway near Damansara Link.

A man in his 50s was today sentenced to 26 months in jail for pelting cars with stones near the Jalan Setiapuspa exit off the Damansara Link on the Sprint Highway.

Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the man, who was not identified, was charged with committing mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

Section 427 provides for a penalty of between one and five years in prison, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Hoo said the accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, pleaded guilty.

The court then sentenced him to 26 months in prison, with the sentence to run from the date of his arrest yesterday.

In a statement, Hoo said six motorists had filed police reports at about 11am yesterday after their vehicles, including a Maserati, were damaged by rocks thrown by the man.

He said one of the victims suffered injuries to the hand and body after being hit by broken pieces of a windscreen and the stone that was thrown.

The victim was treated at a private clinic, while the total losses suffered by all six victims were estimated at over RM20,000.

“Police officers then arrested the suspect and seized a waist pouch which contained several stones and a modified pair of scissors believed to have been used as a dangerous weapon.

“Checks found that the suspect has a record for eight criminal offences and one for a drug offence,” he said.

The case was initially probed for mischief, voluntarily causing hurt, and carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. - FMT
