KUALA LUMPUR: Former Rembau member of parliament Khairy Jamaluddin has left it to the party leadership to decide on the possibility of him contesting in the Negri Sembilan election on Aug 1.
"I do not know, ask the party," he said briefly when met by reporters after the launch of the "Safe Child, Strong Nation" campaign organised by the Child Protection Society Malaysia at Seri Negara here today.
When asked about his involvement in the Johor election, Khairy said he would be going on the ground to help with the campaign.
"I will be there," he said.
It was previously reported that the Umno Supreme Council had recorded 6,252 applications from former members seeking to rejoin the party, as well as applications from new members.
They include former foreign minister Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, former defence minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, and Khairy, who is also a former Umno Youth chief. - NST
