THE current infighting within the unity government headed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has taken a new turn, this time with Amanah accusing UMNO Johor of being arrogant.
AMANAH Communications Director Khalid Abdul Samad said the Johor chapter of their allies in the government are arrogant because they consider themselves too strong and assume that the victories they once achieved are absolute.
The former Federal Territories Minister said the people must reject the political culture that is only based on the struggle for positions and power.
Such behaviour betrays the spirit of unity and neglects the interests of the country for the agenda of certain groups.
“We want the people to support those who prioritise unity, political stability, and place the interests of the people and the country as the priority,” he said through Jom Channel on YouTube titled, “Johor BN Punya?”
“Those who do politics only to gain power until they are willing to betray unity must be rejected by the people,” he added.
BN’s narrative that Malays are under threat is backfiring, Khalid Samad argued. Since BN has long governed, such claims expose its own failures.
The sufferings of the Malays reflect BN’s inability to lead, making their appeal for renewed support in Johor elections contradictory and weak.
“If they say Malays are affected, BN is like spitting at the sky because they themselves are the government, and before, they were the government,” pointed out the former MP.
Khalid inquired that if they failed, then why should the people choose them again in this Johor state election.
According to him, BN’s campaign in next month’s election will continue to rely on hate politics because the coalition has no new ideas to present to the people.
He believes PH comes forward with a more positive narrative based on the record of government achievements.
“We have achieved success, we have achieved what we wanted to achieve, and we will continue to strive to achieve something better for the people and the country,” he added.— Focus Malaysia
