Dr Maszlee Malik is PH’ preferred name for Johor Chief Minister

THE name of former Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik, is currently a topic of discussion among netizens who want him as the PH preferred Chief Minister candidate for the upcoming Johor State Election.

This is the result of a Sinar Harian poll on who could be a PH candidate for the post of MB in Johor in the event of a PH win in the state election.

Note that Maszlee is a PKR Central Leadership Council member.

His name was listed together with other PH candidates from Amanah, namely Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan and its vice-chairman Suhaizan Kayat, in the poll.

Sinar says Maszlee is the favourite in the poll conducted on YouTube, X, Facebook and Instagram platforms.

Meanwhile, former Federal Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has responded to questions raised by Johor caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi regarding PH choice of Chief Minister candidate.

She said PH has many qualified, capable and credible leaders who can assume the role if given a mandate by voters.

“Onn Hafiz appears to be very concerned about knowing who PH’s Chief Minister candidate is. In reality, he does not need to worry so much,” Zaliha wrote on Facebook.

“PH has many leaders who are qualified, capable and possess integrity to carry that responsibility if given the mandate by the people,” she added.

Zaliha questioned Onn Hafiz’s insistence that PH name its candidate, noting that he also acknowledged that being a poster boy does not guarantee appointment as Chief Minister.

She stressed that BN respects the Johor State Constitution and the Sultan’s authority, and remains focused on addressing cost-of-living concerns, jobs and economic development rather than  political perception battles.

“If the appointment of the Menteri Besar is ultimately subject to the process and provisions of the Johor State Constitution, why is this issue being turned into a political polemic by him?” she pointed out.

According to her, PH fully respects the Johor State Constitution and the authority of His Majesty the Sultan of Johor in appointing the Chief Minister.

That is why PH is not overly eager to play perception  politics or turn positions into campaign material. She said for PH, the focus remains the same.

The coalition will continue to go on the ground to meet people, listen to their concerns, and offer policies and solutions to improve living standards, create quality employment opportunities, and drive Johor’s economy forward.

“The people of Johor are more interested in knowing how their future can be improved, not who is busier playing perception politics,” she continued.

On Friday, Onn Hafiz Ghazi has challenged the PH coalition to name their Chief Minister candidate ahead of the Johor state elections.

The Johor BN chairman pressed PH to officially name their poster boy and intended Chief Minister candidate if they plan to take over the state administration. — Focus Malaysia
