PETALING JAYA:
One of two suspects allegedly involved in abducting two men in Kelantan before bringing them to Thailand has been arrested in Terengganu.

Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat said the 32-year-old suspect was brought back to Kelantan for a remand order, and police are actively tracking down the other suspect, Berita Harian reported.

“We initially believed the suspect had fled to Thailand, but he was instead hiding in Terengganu, where he was arrested,” he was quoted as saying.

Yusoff was previously reported to have said that the two victims were taken as “collateral” to pressure a relative who owed about RM33,000 to a drug trafficking and migrant smuggling syndicate.

The victims, aged 51 and 35, were kidnapped in separate incidents in Tumpat and Pasir Mas on June 6 and taken to Thailand through illegal border crossings.
