Fake statement claims PN will skip 3 state elections

PN says the statement is 'false and inaccurate'.

The statement, purportedly issued by PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, was circulated after a Supreme Council meeting at PAS’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur last night. (Facebook pic)
PETALING JAYA:
Perikatan Nasional (PN) has dismissed as fake a press statement that circulated after its Supreme Council meeting yesterday, claiming that the coalition had decided not to participate in the Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan elections.

In a short Facebook post, PN said the statement was “false and inaccurate”.

The statement, purportedly issued by PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, said the use of the coalition’s logo and banner in the three state elections was not allowed.

It also said that the PN Supreme Council had decided to suspend the chairman and committee members of the state chapters in Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan until further notice.

PN’s Supreme Council convened a meeting last night, at which it was decided that Parti Wawasan Negara and Pejuang would be admitted into the coalition.

Wawasan was launched on June 13, with former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin as president.

Pejuang, meanwhile, was formed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2020. It is currently led by Mahathir’s son, Mukhriz.

PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar told a press conference after the meeting that seat allocations for the Johor polls would be discussed today, led by PN election director Sanusi Nor.

He also said the meeting proceeded harmoniously and that Bersatu’s position in PN was not discussed.

There was likewise no discussion on the use of logos in the upcoming state polls.

Before the meeting began, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters that the party would remain in PN “forever”.

PAS ended its political cooperation with Bersatu on June 8. Bersatu subsequently pledged to go all-out against PAS in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections, insisting it would contest under the PN banner. - FMT
