MB's aide: Selangor open to work with any party; Harapan, BN to decide on ties for Malacca before Sept 16

Politics

  • Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari’s political secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said the state government is open to exploring cooperation with any party genuinely committed to political stability, development, and the well-being of Selangor residents.

In a statement today, he cited Bersatu’s endorsement of two of its assemblypersons' support for Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail as an example of cooperation across political lines.

He also acknowledged Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham's statement yesterday, in which he did not rule out his party supporting the Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor government until the end of its term.

However, Saifuddin (above) urged parties to avoid premature speculation, saying there had been no serious or formal discussions despite Amirudin’s previous openness to working with any party.

  • Harapan and BN are expected to decide on the direction of their cooperation for the Malacca state election before Malaysia Day on Sept 16, Amirudin said.

Bernama reported the PKR election director as saying that discussions are still at an early stage, with any final decision requiring approval from both Harapan and PKR.

Amirudin also said that another round of discussions was expected this week to assess the progress of negotiations.

He added that Harapan and BN would draw on their experience cooperating and competing against each other in previous state elections to determine the best approach in Malacca.

Tabung Haji RCI

  • Senator Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said the government should focus on implementing the recommendations of the existing Tabung Haji royal commission of inquiry, rather than pursuing PAS’ call for RCI 2.0 or Umno’s proposal for a special Public Accounts Committee body.

In a statement, the DAP leader said the RCI had already provided clear direction, including a recommendation for a forensic audit of 14 investments identified as problematic.

He also said if criminal elements or misconduct were uncovered, the findings should be referred to the MACC, police or relevant enforcement agencies for further action.  - Mkini
