PETALING JAYA:
Police believe the illegal street motorcycle race on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link, a video of which went viral recently, involved RM15,000 in bets.

Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Hasbullah Ali said this information was obtained following the questioning of the suspects detained.

“Based on questioning of the suspects, the illegal race involved RM15,000 in betting money,” Harian Metro quoted him as saying.

Earlier, police confirmed that three more people – a “jockey” and two spectators – were detained to assist in the investigation into the morning incident in which motorcyclists allegedly blocked traffic on a section of the highway to hold an illegal race.

The latest arrests bring the total number of individuals detained to 11.

A 30-second video, which went viral, showed a group of people blocking motorists on the highway to facilitate the race, triggering outrage with the brazen act.

The incident is believed to have occurred at about 7am on Sunday, involving the route from Km33 (Senai toll exit) to Km31 (Johor Premium Outlet exit). - FMT
